Christian Geist (c. 1650-1711) is worthy of a special place among other composers of the era from the Northen Geman region. His style is daring, harmonically advanced and rythmically full of surprices. Geist was inofficial composer and singer of the court of the swedish King Karl XI. He wrote several works for various services and feasts, the magnificity of which meant to demonstrate Sweden’s new role as a Main Power of Europe. He took every oppurtunity in these works to show off his astonishing capability as a bass-singer. Those great works are presented on this recording.
