Biagio Marini was born in the north Italian town of Brescia around 1600. Little is known about his childhood or education but as early as 1615 he appears on the paylist at St Mark's cathedral in Venice as one of the players ("musici suonatori" ). Venice was something of a centre for the revolutionary changes in music at the turn of the 17th century and the influence of the Venetian style is clearly discernable in Marini's music.
CORDE was formed in 1992 on the initiative of Sven A berg and Ulrika Wahlberg and quickly achieved international recognition. The ensemble specialises in early baroque music from the time of Monteverdi to around 1700. The group aims to achieve a rhetorical mode of playing based on the highly advanced art of improvisation of the Renaissance.
